INTERIOR DESIGNING AS A CAREER

With the growth in economy, the building activity all over the country is increasing tremendously. The construction industry has contributed approximately 8.25% to India’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2006. According to one report the Indian construction industry will register an average growth of 15.61% per annum by 2012. The increase in construction activity has resulted in the demand for architects and professional Interior Designers.
More and more people are showing concern for the Interior Decoration of the places in which they live or work. It is to trained and qualified Interior Decorators that these people turn for advice and assistance. The need for trained Decorators is now increasing, because today’s citizens place more emphasis on attractive and functional environments. As a matter of fact we are living in a style-conscious time.

The basic or degree level qualification for an architect is B.Arch. (Bachelor of Architecture). At the 19th Convocation of the IGNOU on 16th February, 2008, Shri M.H. Ansari, Honourable Vice President of India said "The conventional brick-and-mortar campuses of higher education have long gestation periods for completion and have been unable to keep pace with growing demand. Distance Education accounts for 24% of the total enrollment in Higher Education in the country."
